Pastoral Thought

We will celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas, on Sunday, December 9 with a procession from Walmart parking lot beginning at 10:30. The Mass will be at 12:30, and a dinner and convivio will follow. All members of our parish are invited. On a homier level I invite you to come to the Guadalupe Novena which will take place in family homes throughout the parish (listed in our special flyer) from December 3-11.

Each novena will be bi-lingual, praying in Spanish and English, at 7PM each of the nights before the feast. We will pray the rosary in both languages, with scripture, litany, song and prayers. Refreshments and time together to get to know each other will follow. Both Hispanic and English-speaking homes will host the novena. All homes are open to every parishioner. The name of the family and location for each night will be published next week.

I urge you to consider taking part in at least one of the home novenas. The Mexican culture is very welcoming, the family bonds are strong, and the Virgin of Guadalupe is the Mother of All.

Our Hispanic members have brought strong values of family, faith and hard work. We who are ‘Anglo-Americans’ have much to offer that enriches them also. Let’s be there for each other.  You will experience joy, a prayerful encounter, and warm welcome and hospitality.

Mary appeared in Mexico in 1531, over 300 years before Lourdes and Fatima. Her coming began the evangelization of both American continents. The unity God calls us to as a parish will be strengthened when you take part in these celebrations.
